THE LETTER AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BAG

Amazing journeys often have humble beginnings.

When I dug out a letter from the bottom of James’ school bag, inviting him to audition with the Australian Boys Choir, we didn’t know he could sing,” said his mum, Lynn. “But we decided it was worth a go!

This decision was to steer the future direction of an entire family. At the time this article was written, James had gone on to become a member of The Vocal Consort and his younger brother, Dan, was singing with the Kelly Gang. Between them they have accrued 19 years with the ABCI. Both have toured locally, nationally and internationally, as has Lynn, who has been a valued carer on tours, Summer Schools and Weekend Workshops.

The entire family has volunteered countless hours to support the choir, including the boys’ grandmother, Maureen, a key member of the recruitment team for years and baker of countless cakes for audition days and Installation ceremonies!

While they all have different but equally remarkable memories of the choir, Lynn says the one thing that stands out for all of them is the tremendous sense of community.

We have all made lasting friendships with a diverse group of people who have been brought together by one very special passion – the Australian Boys Choir.
