TREVOR JONES

Trevor Jones joined the training ranks of the Australian Boys Choir in 1985. His association with the organisation now spans close to three decades.

Trevor progressed quickly through training to attain the rank of Chorister. Memorably, he took a leading role in the 1987 production of the late Ian Cugley’s opera Sea Changes. He toured with the choir on several occasions, as a member of staff and with The Vocal Consort.

In 1999, Trevor was appointed Deputy Artistic Director, honing his conducting and leadership skills under the mentorship of Noel Ancell. He continues to be a keen advocate of the ABCI training program.

At University, my Honours thesis explored and compared the training techniques of eight different boys’ choirs in Perth and Melbourne, including the ABCI,” Trevor explained.” This confirmed that the ABCI had the most comprehensive and effective programme.

Trevor‘s multi-faceted musical career has included being a popular cabaret performer and entertainer around Australia. Currently, he is Associate Musical Director of the Victorian State Schools Spectacular and he is the founding conductor of Melbourne Choir, Choristry. As a freelance musical director he has conducted many stage shows in music theatre, and is currently working on a local production and a large-scale tour through China.

Trevor teaches singing, vocal ensembles and music theatre history and is on the staff of the Victorian College of the Arts, the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School and Box Hill Institute.
