The gift of excellence. A lasting gift.
Dear Friends of the Australia Boys Choral Institute
Many years ago now, a dear friend in my choir at university mentioned that the Australian Boys Choir were looking for another tutor. Although not overly sure what the role entailed, I applied and subsequently found myself immersed in the world of the ABCI. Having remained on staff for most of the ensuing years, and now also wearing the additional hat of choir parent, it’s fairly clear that the ABCI is an organisation whose value and worth I believe in strongly.
As a teacher and conductor, I never tire of watching the development of those moving through the ABCI program. The opportunities it provides are exceptional and many a thank-you card from singers to staff has acknowledged not just the quality of their music education, but skills that can be applied to their lives in general. Our young people have a rare chance to become highly musically literate, to contribute to an ensemble, to grow their maturity and independence, and be accepted for who they are. In turn, their efforts and achievements frequently provide ABCI adults with moments of great pride at all levels of our organisation.
As a parent I now often experience rehearsals continuing in a solo capacity during the car ride home. Spontaneous singing around the house (be it in solfa or a range of languages) is also a regular feature, as well as amazement at the level of the repertoire being learnt, and the happiness that comes from knowing your child is doing something special, hardworking, rewarding, collaborative and enjoyable. Of course, all of this is done through completely interpersonal means without the need for extensive technology, screens or devices.
I am so proud to work alongside an extremely dedicated pool of people who bring their talents in music, teaching, management and administration to the ABCI staff. They are supported by the expertise of our volunteer Board of Directors as well the vital contribution of parents who volunteer in various critical capacities.
All of this – the Choir’s educational program, the range of impressive performances, the enormous part the ABCI plays in the lives of its singers – also depends enormously on the generosity of our donors.
With the season of giving nearly upon us, please consider making your end-of-year gift to support our highly talented young singers and ongoing commitment to excellence today.
Making a tax-deductible donation of $2 or more to the Australian Boys Choral Institute can help with the purchase of new music and equipment, the cost of concerts and collaborations, and continue providing life-changing experiences for our singers.
Thank you for giving generously.
